Pacific Mini Regional ExchangeMeeting
(Meeting: 29 September to 1 October 2015) The Seascapes Technical Working Group will be holding a Seascapes Pacific Mini Regional Exchange on September 29 to October 1, 2015 at the Goddard Building, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
The event, hosted by the Government of Australia will be attended by a total of 10 participants from the three (3) Pacific countries (Papua New Guinea (4), Solomon Islands (4) and Timor Leste (2).
This is a 3-day workshop organized by Conservation International with funding from the Australian Government through its Coral Triangle Initiative Support Program. The Nature Conservancy is also providing technical assistance during the event as resource persons together with the specialists from Conservation International.
The objectives of the event are:
1. Foster capacity building of CTI member countries of CTI Technical Working Groups (TWGs) through participation of resource experts and the examination of case studies.
2. Introduce and refine the seascapes model and framework as a way of creating large-scale, cooperative marine management that is based on an integrated ecosystem-based management (EBM) approach.
3. Build recognition and confidence in current practices that are already moving towards seascape management through an integrated EBM approach that can be tailored to specific context and needs.
4. Address knowledge gaps previously identified in the areas of ridge to reef, marine special planning, and transboundary marine management using the case study: the Sulu Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion.
