Coral Triangle Pacific Regional Planning Meeting to be held in Queensland, Australia

(Meeting: 26 – 29 April 2015) The Coral Triangle Pacific Regional Planning Meeting will be held in partnership with the Global Change Institute of the University of Queensland from 27 to 29 April 2015. On the 26th, a pre-planning workshop will prepare a work program to be endorsed by the country representatives.

The institute will host the meeting and provide technical expertise to review the list of proposed activities for financing under the regional technical assistance project, TA-7753 Strengthening Coastal and Marine Resources Management in the Coral Triangle of the Pacific (Phase 2). A representative from the Coral Triangle Initiative Regional Secretariat will also participate in discussions and support coordinated action in the Pacific toward food security, resilient coastal management, and climate change adaptation.

The meeting participants will be welcomed by Andrea Iffland, Regional Director of ADB’s Pacific Liaison and Coordination Office (PLCO). Prof. Ove Hoegh-Guldberg will be the guest speaker on key issues on marine ecosystem management. Prof. Hoegh-Guldberg is the Director of the Global Change Institute and Professor of Marine Science at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, and Deputy Director of James Cook University’s Centre for Excellence in Coral Reef Studies. His research interests are focused on environmental change and marine ecosystems. He is one of the world’s most cited authors on climate change with more than 15,000 citations from >250 papers, books and patents.

The primary objectives of the meeting are to provide recommendations for improving the performance of project implementation informed by the mid-term review; draw up a final list of subprojects for financing under the Coral Triangle Pacific project; seek country endorsement of revised country work programs; and exchange ideas and experiences between countries and partners.
